Drupal CMS launches, Toad in the Hole the game – freelancers meet on 15th January 2025
Posted by Paul Silver
Our second meeting in 2025 was relatively quiet, with ten freelancers coming to the Lord Nelson to chat.
This is some of what we talked about, I missed noting several topics down as I was too busy talking to interesting folk to remember to write:
- Drupal CMS 1.0
- Bluesky ‘hacks’ to see your followers
- The Lewes world championships of Toad in the Hole
- The state of the economy
- MicroStrategy and cryptocurrency
- Going through an enhanced DBS check
- WordPress fork?
- The Matt Mullenweg vs WP Engine situation
- Peak happiness is earning £60,000 a year?
- Toad in the Hole comes up again?!?
- Four other groups in the pub with us
- Billionaires are inherently weird
- “They’re talking about money, it’s doing my head in” – a finance student
- Balancing work and childcare, and sometimes parentcare
Drupal CMS launches
It was great to hear about Drupal CMS launching. It’s a version of Drupal designed to be easier to install and get up and running, with basic configuration pre-set with sensible defaults and easy ways to change them. Andy was kind enough to give me a quick look at the version he was experimenting with.
In a world where WordPress is looking less stable as a platform long term due to the actions of Matt Mullenweg, having a good alternative based on a very long running, well built project is very welcome. I hope it will become popular.
Toad in the Hole
This traditional pub game ‘popular’ locally came up twice in one evening, which was very weird as I’d only vaguely heard of it before. Throwing coins into a hole has never been so popular!
