Meeting notes from 14th May 2025

Posted by

On the 14th May 2025, ten freelancers gathered together in the Lord Nelson Inn, Brighton, to talk all things freelancing and tech, and a surprising amount of baking too.

Here’s my notes from the evening:

  • Still trying to get a business bank account due to delays of bad IT
  • Formula 1
  • Tech conferences
  • Vibe coding and rewriting Elixir
  • Writing and judging cook books
  • Vienna
  • Favourite baking recipes
  • Is Elixir code from LLMs better than most AI produced code as the examples online are generally good quality?
  • Changing jobs after a very long time with the same company
  • Our history in IT
  • Dealing with APIs of recruitment software
  • Publishing
  • A service that gives you a job interview so you can practise
  • Ideas for how to ramp up promoting yourself ahead of a project launch when the project is currently secret
  • Keep your two business sides separate, or cross promote in your different social channels?

This week we were joined for the first time by someone I thought I recognised from another of the groups I’ve been to, or a shared office I’ve used, then realised no, it’s because they’d been on Great British Bake Off. I don’t know if anything in the notes shouldn’t be there, so I’m not going to name them, but if they’re reading this: it was lovely to meet you and good luck finding the .Net / database contract!
