On the 4th June, 8 freelancers met in the Lord Nelson Inn, Brighton, to talk tech, self employment, and a fair amount of nonsense.

This is some of what we talked about:

  • People losing their jobs to AI?
  • Perplexity AI tool writing CRUD apps
  • Working on old codebases is currently too hard for AI/LLMs
  • How much fixing of AI code is there going to be in the near future?
  • Potential clients who use the word “easy” too much are worth avoiding
  • Heston Blumenthal and bipolar disorder
  • Business bank account saga continues, now trying to open an account with fourth option
  • What banks do you use?
  • The many versions of The Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy
  • Photoacoustics
  • Trump’s new rules about ETFs and dividends to foreign investors may badly affect Vanguard and others
  • SIPPs and pensions as a Director
  • Ukraine’s drone strike within Russia
  • The US Dollars recent drop in value
  • Using Wise for non-Sterling payments
