Notes on our freelancers meeting on 18th June 2025
Posted by Paul Silver
On the 18th June, ten freelancers met in the Lord Nelson Inn to discuss all things freelancing, tech, and a bunch of nonsense too.
This is some of what we talked about:
- State of the market – still too quiet!
- AI hollowing out industries and how will jobs change? (If we knew that, would we be on a nice beach somewhere?)
- Wages vs dividends vs pension payments
- Tracking down migraine triggers
- Any company limits on pension contributions?
- Trying to do AI integrations
- Signs that a client’s business is shrinking
- Trying to balance time on your startup and time earning money right now
- Reduction of cancer rates for people taking statins
- Being able to only work with nice people
- The chance at getting experience with cool microfabrication (congrats Jack!)
- Academia and professorships
- What is life coaching?
- Pubs with beer gardens
- Current news – Trump, Israel, Iran
- Anti-fraud bank processes are getting a bit daft
- Is there a longer edit of The Never Ending Story?
- xAI “owning” Twitter for accounting reasons
Thanks to everyone who came along and made it a very enjoyable evening!
