Notes from our freelancers meet up on 16th July 2025
Posted by Paul Silver
On the 16th July, fourteen freelancers met in the Lord Nelson pub to talk all things self employment, tech, and a fair amount of rubbish.
This is some of what we talked about:
- Python conferences and camps
- Hugo vs WordPress
- AWS and the potential for surprise high bills
- Digital Ocean vs AWS
- Trying to fix a problem with no error messages or anything in logs means a lot of code reading
- Clients who are surprisingly technical for business people
- Clickup and time tracking and documentation storage
- Cholesterol
- “It’s not a security hole, it’s an undocumented API”
- Having to fit in with technology choices made before you work on a project (to limits)
- Different ways to decide when to buy and sell crypto
- Masons
- Diving near the wind farm
- Rampian wind farm expansion
- Still Wakes the Deep game
- Ex-cable car as a garden office?
- Van life
