On the 20th May, thirteen freelancers got together in the beer garden of the Battle of Trafalgar pub in Brighton to talk all things tech, self employment and client handling. This is some of what we talked about:

  • Unsatisfying interviews
  • Not having used a device for 6,507 days (when interface designers don’t expect big gaps)
  • Graph databases
  • Holidays that don’t go as you planned
  • Pitching to fix anxieties
  • Using legal pressure to chase money
  • Using Storybook and Claude to build Text User Interfaces (TUIs)
  • Using Puck for building interfaces
  • Dealing with chronic insomnia
  • Comparing migraine symptoms
  • Calling people the wrong name
  • Work political stress
  • Brighton could do with a good clean
  • Why are the UK’s tourist entry points so horrible looking? (e.g. Dieppe vs Newhaven)
  • The energy of London
  • Sailing trip
