Tentative signs of recovery? Viral content and other notes from our freelancers meet on 3rd June 2026

On the 3rd June, nine freelancers got together in the Battle of Trafalgar pub in Brighton to talk all things freelancing and a fair amount of random nonsense too. This is some of what we talked about:

  • New contract!
  • Cool 360° photo webapp
  • Talking Drupal
  • “You know your luck is out when you turn the wrong way in an Escher painting”
  • Claude subscription levels
  • How long will AI be affordable?
  • Being abused in the street by a streamer trying to get content
  • The unpredictability of what will go viral
  • Chris has a video with 8.2m views!
  • b3ta (still going!)
  • Thailand trip
  • Doing “a trade” is great until bits of your body wear out
  • Massage reactions: Yes, no, not like that!
  • Surreptitious gin delivery
  • Wearing a suit in London

Tentative signs of recovery?

Two Farm members have landed new contracts recently. Maybe that’s early signs that the market is recovering a bit, but it could be coincidence. They’re both very good at what they do, one being a senior Python programmer and the other a very experienced Drupal developer, so it could just be coincidence. I’ve got my fingers crossed that it means more companies are starting to get extra help in again.
